The Girl’s All Wet: Allysa Monks’ Great Paintings
Every once in a while I see a painting and think, dang, I wish I did that! Being interested in transparency, translucency, reflected light, representational paintings that appear abstract, paintings with art historical references and paintings with great paint handling, I find nothing more satisfying than one of Alyssa Monks‘ paintings.
Her large paintings of people in showers, bathtubs and under water, give a nod to the bathtub paintings of Bonnard.
The fluid, sensual use of paint is half Manet, half Jules Olitski.
Her paintings are both exquisitely real and as abstract as a late deKooning.
These paintings are worth stealing from.

Inspiring!
I agree.
